We’re not going home

• The origin of the Venetian carnival has not been established with certainty, but it is a common convention to acknowledge the beginnings in 1094 when doge Vitale Falier first talks about “public amusement” allowed by authorities and the word “carnival” appears in official documents.
In the following centuries, the carnival is institutionalized and became the most famous event in Europe; the wealthy aristocrats would compete, with sophisticated and expensive costumes, to participate to its many exclusive parties in the most beautiful palaces of the city.
